Summer Youth Program

SEED 2 FEED Summer Youth Program:

Through the hands-on work of growing food, cooking, and food justice outreach, our summer SEED 2 FEED program will grow strong, healthy, and inspired teens who live in Prince George’s County. We create a safe space where they can experience leadership development, personal growth, collaboration and job training.

Over the summer, young people will acquire skills and knowledge about a sustainable food system through urban farming, composting, nutrition education, and healthy living. They will assist with cultivating vegetables at the Edmonston Farm, cook (and eat) delicious food, and find their own voices through creative arts. Through field trips, they will explore food and health in Prince George’s County.

Experienced urban farmers, artists, nutritionists and environmentalists will teach the youth about sustainability, local food production, healthy cooking and eating.

ECO City Farms is seeking high school youth interested in food, health and the environment to enroll in the signature SEED2FEED Summer Youth Employment Program. This program is for youth ages 15-19. Youth are introduced to all aspects of food production literally from the ground up so they will think differently about the sources of their food and the role of food in their life. They will be informed and empowered to make their own healthy life style and eating choices. Youth are engaged in all aspects of our Edmonston urban farm, from seed to harvest to cooking to eating.

The application deadline for the opportunity to earn wages while enrolled in the summer youth program has passed. We will consider accepting a limited number of youth to enroll in the program who can earn service learning hours for their participation.

Location: ECO City Farms at Edmonston, 4913 Crittenden Street Edmonston, MD 20781

Dates: June 26 – August 4
