Looking for a delicious, affordable way to support ECO City Farms and our mission to grow great food, farms, and farmers? Sign up for our 2024 CSA today!

At ECO, we grow over 70 varieties of fruits and vegetables. We grow food in ways that sustain the environment, our farmers, and our communities. We choose climate-resilient and heirloom varieties, and incorporate a wide range of sustainable growing practices. Your CSA membership supports our ongoing commitment to treating our communities and our land with love and respect.

How does it work?

A CSA is kind of like a season-long subscription to fresh food. As a CSA member, you sign up and pay for your shares ahead of time (right now!). Once the regular growing season starts, you’ll come to the farm every Thursday to pick up a bag with fresh, healthy, organically grown fruits and vegetables inside. You’ll receive an email newsletter each week with a list of that week’s produce, recipe ideas, and updates about what’s going on at ECO City Farms. You’ll also be invited to CSA member-only events, like our spring CSA open house.

What’s in the CSA?

We strive to provide you with quality, abundance, and variety in each share. A share is generally enough food for one to two people. We do our best to plan to give you a different mix of produce each week! A sample of what your share might look like in each season is below.

Summer season: tomatoes, cantaloupe, garlic scapes, potatoes, and cucumbers

Fall season: bell peppers, eggplant, okra, collard greens, and carrots

We also periodically offer CSA members the chance to purchase additional special products from other local farmers, including honey, soaps, teas, and more.

When are the pickup dates?

Our Summer to Fall CSA season is 13 weeks long. It begins on August 22 and will run through November 14th

How much does a CSA cost?

New! Pay what you can with our sliding scale. This year we’re implementing a sliding scale payment system in an effort to provide food access for more members of our community here in PG County. A sliding scale means that there are several payment options for you to choose from, based on your understanding of your own financial need, and other forms of social privilege you may experience in the world. Learn more about this model in the description below. Members also will the option to pay for their CSA in full now, or in monthly installments, coming soon.

Pick-up time and location?

Thursdays, from 3 PM to 6 PM at the Edmonston Farm (4913 Crittenden Street Edmonston, MD 20781). If you cannot make it to the farm within the pickup window, we’ll leave your share in a cooler outside the farm’s gate for you to pick up later that evening. After the 6 PM pick-up time, staff will not be on-site and we cannot ensure your share will be in the cooler when you arrive.

As explained by Soul Fire Farm’s solidarity share model: “We ask that people with more wealth and income pay more for their CSA share subscription to subsidize shares for those with less wealth and income. We empower people to decide for themselves what contribution level makes sense and offer coaching to support that determination. For example, people are encouraged to pay less if they are supporting children, have high medical expenses or immigration costs, or receive public assistance. People are encouraged to pay more if they own their home, have inheritance, work less by choice, or have high earning power based on their demographic position…The goal is that all members pay approximately the same percentage of their income toward their food, practicing economic solidarity.”

Much has been written about sliding scales as tools for more meaningfully integrating principles of social and economic justice into farming and food access. If you’re interested in learning more, we recommend you check out these guides from Soul Fire Farm and Little Red Bird Botanicals

Farm Share Policies

Share Pick Ups: All members pick up their share. Shares can only be picked up during the designated time, but you may send a friend to pick yours up if you cannot make it. There are no make-ups or refunds for shares not picked up.

Inclement Weather/Cancellations: Farm share pickups are held rain or shine. In the event of hazardous conditions, ECO will notify members of pickup cancellation or rescheduling via email and members will be issued a makeup option.

Crop Failure and Risk: ECO’s farmers and staff do their very best to provide consistent, high quality produce to every farm share member, every week. However, the farm share members also share in the risks as well as the benefits of the growing season. Risks in farming include pests, drought, excessive rain, wind, and crop failure. In case of shortage in supply ECO may need to change the variety and quantity of produce and/or will distribute available produce fairly among its members. Farmer designated skip weeks will be used in case of extreme circumstances.

Payments: All farm share members must pre-pay for the season. Members commit to paying any balance by the due date. Checks should be made payable to ECO City Farms.

Member Agreement
By purchasing a CSA share, you agree to the following statement: By becoming a member of ECO’s CSA/Farm Share program, I am committing to picking up my share for the time period of the season. If I cannot pick up my share I will try to have a friend pickup in my place. I understand that there are no make ups or refunds for shares not picked up. I have read and understood the policies outlined in the information provided.
